Underrrated Games
Run out of AAA titles to play this summer? How about finding some cheap, underrated games to play  next month?
Here are 5 of the great underrated games this generation.

5. Infamous
Release date: May 26, 2009 | New price: $29.99 | Used price: $10-19 | PS3
Average review score: 85%

One of the sleeper hits last year. If this game did not contain Uncharted 2′s multiplayer beta when it came out, it would probably not have gotten attention from the press at all. If you like superhero games, this is a must buy. The player controls Cole and wields his lightning powers, from power line surfing to throwing lightning grenades. The game has comic style cut scenes and two different paths to choose, this game requires multiple play throughs to master all Cole’s powers and see all cut scenes.

4. Earth Defense Force 2017
Release date: March 20, 2007 | New price: $35 | Used price: $15-20 | Xbox 360
Average review score: 69%

Earth Defense Force 2017 is probably one of the most ridiculous game on Xbox 360.  This is a crazy shoot-em-up style game. The player controls one of the marines (looks like a character from a Japanese 90′s show) and goes around cities and caves blowing up giant alien ants, spiders or space ships. The game does not make sense at all. Why does a single grenade collapse the 80 floor skyscraper with one shot? No one knows, but EDF 2017 is very addictive and fun to play.

3. Blue Dragon
Release date: August 28, 2007 | New price: $22 | Used price: $5-15 | Xbox 360
Average review score: 79%

From the legendary creator of Final Fantasy: Hironobu Sakaguchi, and composer Nobuo Uematsu. Blue Dragon is the first game Sakaguchi created after leaving Square Enix and the Final Fantasy franchise to started up his own studio, MistWalker. Blue Dragon is a turn based J-RPG with really a great soundtrack and story. The character design and their shadows (Dragon,Ox etc) really stand out. The game lasts 40 hours if the player just runs through it. With side quests and other explorations, it can easily take up to 60-100 hours.

2. Folklore
Release date: October 9, 2007 | New price: $45.99 | Used price: $18-30 | PS3
Average review score: 75%

Folklore is an unique action adventure game  exclusive to the PS3.  The story is engaging and has many unexpected plot twists as the protagonists, Ellen and Keats, fight their way through the Netherworld and try to solve the mystery surrounding a small sea-side village. The combat system allows players to capture creatures’ souls and them against other creatures.  Each creature has different weaknesses. When the player is about to defeat harder creatures, it triggers a quick time event that involves pulling the Six-axis controller in different directions.

1. MadWorld
Release date: March 10, 2009 | New price: $14.99 | Used price: $5-10 | Wii
Average review score: 81%

One of the many attempts to bring hardcore gamers into Wii gaming. Sega’s MadWorld is a gory beat-em up game. The whole game is based around a show that allows the player to chain brutal kills in order to get points. The game only has 3 colors: black, white and red. MadWorld adopts an interesting comic book art style, and with every hit – the screen splatters with blood, gore and comic text bubbles. With a 15$ price tag, now is the perfect time to buy this game.

  • I think Starcraft 2 is just a over absorbed version 1. Where is the fun in playing the game contra a mob of homos players who go about like its the termination of the world when you lose?
SC2 Sucks. Playing online is boring if you fail. Too many freaks can’t handle losing a game once in a lifetime as it hurts their “so called score” I’d rather play comand and conquer red storm as its more team building gratification.
