A healthy amount of blood pudding?
Developed by Radical entertainment, Prototype is the new Hulk with a twist. From sprinting up a skyscraper to chucking giant air conditioners towards helicopters. Without a doubt, this is the new hulk ultimate destruction, but can this game stand out from other sandbox super hero games?

The story starts off, with the player fighting a huge horde of infected citizens and military soldiers in New York city. The protagonist is Alex Mercer, he was an undercover lab assistant sent to find out about Gentek. Most of the story is told by Alex in flashbacks and crazy seizure videos. The flashback memory showed Alex waking up in a morgue, having no idea what is happening. He finds out a virus has broken out, and he has also gained some really bizzare powers. The story picks up from there as Alex trys to uncover what is infecting New York city. The story in Prototype is sub-par at most points, and straight up lame at some plot twists. The weird story telling and the seizure videos adds nothing except confusion and frustration for the players.
However, the control in Prototype are very smooth, players can be going at an incredible speed and land with pin point precision. The camera angle in this game needs to be improved, at one second the player is looking towards an incoming helicopter, next second the camera spin around in an awkward position as the player climbs up a wall. The same can be said about the targeting system. The targeting system slows down time as the player cycles through the enemies, but usually it cycles through the wrong enemy.

The game play in Prototype is chaotic and fast, and Alex has got tons of skills he can upgrade or unlock to handle most situations. His weapons ranging from the close combat claws to blood sausage explosion devastator attack. As the player gains more EP ( evolution points) to unlock more skills, the game becomes more and more enjoyable. The only complaint about the game play is the swirling difficulty. The players can be destroying battalions of infected and military soldiers, but the next moment be getting their asses kicked by one or two hunters trapping Alex in a corner.
The graphics look amazing from a distance, but when the player tries to hijack a helicopter or tank, the weird textures can be spotted all over the place. The consumption animation is interesting at the start, but it will quickly annoy the players as the blood and gore blocks the screen. Consider the large sandbox Prototype is in, some of these flaw can easily be ignored. The side missions in Prototype suffer from the Assassin’s Creed treatment.
Overall, Prototype is an average game. The great game play in this game is hindered by awful story and the other flaws mentioned in this review. With the main story arc clocking in about 10 hours. I can only recommend to rent this game before buying. If you can withstand the frustrating story, then this game might be for you.
