DLC Review – Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island

review_burnoutbsiIs this island paradise worth 13$?

Criterion Games have always been great in supporting their games. Its already been one and a half year, yet DLC packs are still being pumped out. We already have had the free bike pack and other great updates, but the most important question is: is Big Surf Island worth 13$?

Big Surf Island is not really that big, is roughly the size of  1/8 of the original game content. However the island has more vertical components. There are more rooftops to race on, more vertical short cuts, and more crazy vertical jumps. The DLC map is small but packed with awesome race ways and is definitely more enjoyable than the original map.

The 9 vehicles you can unlock are definitely a nice addition, but most of them require the players to grind billboards, gates and freeburn events to unlock. Is pretty awesome to bring the “Back to The Future” DeLorean toy car into an online match and takedown other people. During an online session players who purchased the Big Surf Island pack are identified through a palm tree beside their name, which I think is a nice touch.

Overall, Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island is a great addition, however due to the map size and the grinding required to unlock new cars, I can not recommend this to everyone. I think it just cost a tad too much for a DLC when the game is selling at 29$. That been said, if you are a fan and still continue to play Burnout online, definitely pick this up.

+ More vertical component
+ 9 Vehicles
- 13$
- map is a bit small
